The Bible instructs us to, “Let your yes be yes and your no be no.”
Have you ever noticed that it does not mention words denoting doubtful possibility? In my experience, words like “maybe” and “perhaps” usually signify nothing more than a postponement of a final “no.”
So here is my tip: when you are not sure whether you want to accept an invitation, do the inviter a favor: say NO.
To say, “maybe,” while hoping a better offer will come along is rude and selfish. If you are honest with yourself, you will see when this motive is active. When it is, do the kind thing and say, “No, no thank you.”
