May-time in Eugene

It’s cold and wet like Autumn,

Yet green and fresh like Spring.

It mists, it rains, it downpours

And soil turns to mud.

We’d like to plant a garden,

We’d like to take a walk.

We’d like to wear our sandals,

and stroll beneath the sun.

Alas, the sun is shrouded

And will be for weeks more.

The wool and socks and wood stove,

we’ll need till mid-July.

We knew that this would happen,

As it seldom fails to do.

It’s May-time in the valley

So keep your mud boots on!
