An essential rule of the road appears to have escaped your notice: the road is for cars and bicycles, not for pedestrians.
If you are crossing the street you should walk straight across. Do not meander slowly, enjoying the middle of the road for a few moments before reaching the other side. I recommend that your path across the road be perfectly perpendicular to the sidewalk or curb from which you have descended. Unless of course you wish to be hit by a car or subjected to verbal violence from passing cyclists.
