AEA

Here in the beautiful but gloomy Willamette Valley, SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) is a common diagnosis.  This will be my fourth year of somehow surviving the nadir of outlook and mood that occurs during roughly sixteen weeks surrounding the winter solstice.  This “disorder,” as they call it, can lead one to dark places and dim thoughts.

Based on my own experience of this season of increased melancholy and pessimism, I offer an alternate name:

Annual Existential Anguish

Gentle Reader, do you too lapse into (more) morose thoughts than usual during this time?  What is your experience of the coma-like climate?  Proposals for other names?
